Apple is rumored to be creating a new line of hardware focused on artificial intelligence. A well-informed reporter indicates that the tech company from Cupertino is working on AI devices like smart glasses, AirPods with cameras, and a wearable pendant. Apple appears to be looking into new designs that go beyond just the iPhone and Vision Pro. Although the company has not officially confirmed these initiatives, sources suggest that development is underway, with some initial prototypes being tested within the company. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the initial item in Apple’s AI collection is a pair of light smart glasses that may enhance or replace some functions of the iPhone. In contrast to the high-end Vision Pro headset made for developers, these glasses are expected to be more suited for general consumers.
The project for Apple's smart glasses is reportedly being referred to internally as “N50.” Rather than functioning alone, these N50 glasses are said to be designed to connect wirelessly to an iPhone, transferring demanding tasks to the phone while the glasses take care of capturing data and simpler functions. The report suggests that the early versions of these glasses contain cameras and microphones that send relevant information to Apple's AI systems, allowing features like identifying objects, offering contextual suggestions, and providing live help.
In addition to the smart glasses, Apple is also said to be developing AirPods that include cameras facing outside. These suggested earbuds are expected to collect visual information about what’s around the user, working with Apple’s AI to enhance spatial awareness and create more context-aware interactions. Gurman mentioned that this idea could allow for gesture controls, better understanding of the environment, and quicker responses from Siri. This aligns with previous leaks hinting at a potential release of AirPods with built-in cameras. Reports say that the new AirPods Pro might have the ability to “see around you,” and could be priced similarly to the current model.
The final experimental device being created is a wearable AI pendant. This gadget, designed to be worn around the neck, is said to feature cameras and sensors that can constantly examine the user’s environment. Like other AI-based wearables emerging today, the pendant would use both advanced on-device processing and cloud AI to provide real-time insights and support, possibly acting as a digital assistant. The report highlights that these projects are part of Apple’s long-term plan to lessen dependence on the iPhone by introducing new types of AI-driven devices. However, none of the devices mentioned have been officially verified. Additional information about these initiatives may come to light in the next few years.
