In a new turn of events, Salman Khan has gone to the Delhi High Court asking for temporary protection against the creators of the film Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, claiming a serious breach of his personal rights, since the film is loosely inspired by the 1998 blackbuck hunting incident. A request under Order XXXIX Rules 1 and 2 of the Code of Civil Procedure has been submitted in an existing commercial case before the High Court, asking for a temporary order to prevent the film's producer Amit Jani, Jani FireFox Films, director Bharat Shrinate, Akshay Pandey, and others involved from making, promoting, distributing, showing, streaming, or releasing the film while the lawsuit is ongoing.

The actor argues that even though his name isn't directly mentioned, people can easily recognize him from the film's posters, promotional materials, and statements made by those linked to the film. The request also points to news articles and comments from producer Amit Jani, where he mentioned that the film is influenced by the blackbuck case and the issue with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

The petition includes interviews, social media posts, and promotional content claiming to tie the movie to Khan, suggesting that these elements are being used to create buzz and commercial interest by leveraging his public image. Khan had previously sent a legal notice on April 24, 2026, asking everyone involved with the project to stop working on, making, and promoting the film. The application states that despite the notice, promotional efforts seemed to continue, leading the actor to ask for immediate legal action. He has requested the court to stop the defendants from releasing, publishing, promoting, or spreading any trailers, teasers, posters, or other advertising regarding Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, alongside an order to halt any further work on the project until the matter is resolved. In reply to Khan's lawsuit, the producer asserted that he received threats to his life.

As per a PTI report, while Salman Khan, the primary accused, was found guilty by the chief judicial magistrate's court (Jodhpur district), other accused individuals — Saif Ali Khan, Bendra, Tabu, Neelam, and a local person, Dushyant Singh — were cleared of all charges. Two decades later, a trial court in Rajasthan found Salman Khan guilty and sentenced him to five years in prison on April 5, 2018. He was later released from Jodhpur jail after being granted bail by a Sessions Court.
