At least 6 people have been killed and over 25 injured in massive violence reported in Chicago on Weekend Memorial Day 2019. In three batch of shootings reported throughout Sunday, members of opposing groups resorted to indiscriminate firing which led to the casualties.

The police department has rounded up dozens of suspects following the shootouts.

The fatal violence erupted in the 1300 block of West Hastings Street, also referred to as 'Little Italy', in the wee hours of Sunday. In the gunfire which ensued 3 were shot dead and 3 left injured. Subsequently, a large gathering of the rival group reached the spot and ended up killing one person.

After daybreak, another shooting broke out in University Village neighborhood at 6 a.m. At least two deaths were reported in the cross-exchange of gunfire.

Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the Chicago Police Department, said the preliminary investigation has revealed that the three shooting incidents are linked to each other.

"Multiple weapons have been recovered and detectives believe our offender opened fire on a group of people with a TEC-9 semi-automatic machine pistol," said the statement issued by Guglielmi.
