Three Indians among 15 Injured in Explosion at Indian Restaurant in Toronto

Three Indians among fifteen people were critically injured in an explosion at Indian restaurant in Mississauga, a suburb of Toronto on May 24.

The blast occurred around 10:30 p.m. late on May 24 at Bombay Bhel restaurant located in a plaza in the area of Hurontario steert and Eglinton Avenue. The three India-origin persons reported to be stable.

“Regarding the bomb blast in an Indian restaurant in Mississauga, our Consul General in Toronto has visited the hospital and confirmed that the three Indian-Canadians who were reported to be critically injured are stable now,” India’s High Commissioner to Canada Vikas Swarup tweeted.

According to police two anonymous persons walked into the establishment denoting an Improvised Explosive Device and later fleeing from the scene.

One suspect is described as in the mid 20’s, stocky, wearing dark blue jeans, a dark zip-up hoodie pulled over his head and black cloth covering his face. The second suspect described as thin, wearing faded blue jeans, a grey t-shirt, dark zip-up hoodie over his head and with his face covered.

Internal External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj took it to Twitter saying that the Indian government was in touch with the consulate in Toronto.

Bombay-Bhel2The three critically injured were taken to Sunnybrook hospital in Toronto. The other 12 people were with minor injuries.

Roads in the area were shut, and a large police presence was noticed the entire night, according to reports. Heavily-armed tactical officers were also part of the large emergency response.

Peel regional police asked for the public assistance in nabbing the suspects.
