
The Chicago Sikh American community members have participated in the 147th Chicago Memorial Day Parade with a float, flags, posters, banners and also a walking unit in order to honor and commemorate the Sikh’s Contributions in the World Wars I & II.
The banners and also posters displayed on the float feature the photos and quotations that highlight contributions of the Sikh soldiers to the success of its Allied Troops during the World Wars. This parade marks as the sixth year which the community has participated in the annual Chicago parade.
Parade began with the wreath-laying ceremony in Daley Plaza where the U.S. Representative Tammy Duckworth and also Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel were present for the ceremony in order to remember those, who had made the ultimate sacrifice in defending or protecting the country.
The Sikh Soldiers who have gallantly fought and also sacrificed their lives for the success of its Allies in the World Wars I & II were part of the British-India Army. During the two world wars, 83,005 Sikh soldiers have died and also 109,045 were wounded while fighting for their Allied forces.
The Sikh parade was cosponsored by the Sikh Religious Society Palatine Illinois. The two hour long parade was organized by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, stepped off at the noon and again proceeded to south on the State Street from Lake Street to the Van Buren Street.
The Chicago Memorial Day Parade has honored the veterans as well as to the active duty personnel and also drew nearly 10,000 spectators. It commemorated the incredible work of soldiers, which they do to protect the country as well as to maintain the freedom.
