A judge, who is well known for being fair, kind, and also tough in the court, was killed outside of his Chicago home in an act of violence as senseless as anything which passed through his courtroom.
Police said Raymond Myles, a 66 years old judge in the Cook County's criminal division, was shot dead outside his South Side home just before 5 a.m. on Monday, after a female friend leaving to go to the gym has encountered an armed man, reports the Chicago Tribune. She was shot in the leg after exchanging the words with man and also the judge was shot to death on his porch after going outside to investigate about the noise.
Police also said that Myles spoke to the man before he was shot multiple times. The woman was hospitalized immediately and is expected to survive.
Myles dealt with the number of high-profile criminal cases, but police believe that the incident was an attempted robbery, but not a targeted killing.
Police and the FBI said they are following up multiple leads, reports NBC. The judge is being mourned by the colleagues and even by the defendants.

"His ability to control his courtroom with dignity, his ability to transfer that dignity to the accused, people like my client, was amazing," the defense attorney, Wendelin DeLoach told to ABC7.
DeLoach also said the judge was known for trying to make sure that every defendant who came into his courtroom obtained the high school diploma or GED.
"He ruled his courtroom with an iron fist but with a great amount of kindness, fairness, and justice," she said.
