Previously, Trump has encouraged Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, to ask for federal assistance. Emanuel did not addressed the Trump tweets or spoken about the violence.
Mayor Emanuel, has specified the areas, where he would like to take the federal government’s help.
In a interview with WTTW, Emanuel said, he wants tougher sentences for repeat offenders.
In a statement obtained by CNN, Chicago Police Superintendent, Eddie Johnson, pointed at the Mayor’s comments.
Johnson said, “the Chicago Police Department is more than willing to work with the federal government to build on our partnerships with DOJ, FBI, DEA and ATF and boost federal prosecution rates for gun crimes in Chicago.”
While on the campaign trail, Trump would mention Chicago, suggesting that, controversial and possibly unconstitutional tactics, such as stop-and-frisk could help to address the issue.
