Chicago Bulls star Cousin Fatally Shot, Pushing Baby Stroller

The first cousin of Chicago Bulls star Dwyane Wade was shot and killed in Chicago on Friday afternoon, the Wade family has confirmed.

The NBA star tweeted on Friday evening, "My cousin was killed today in Chicago. Another act of senseless gun violence. 4 kids lost their mom for NO REASON. Unreal. #EnoughIsEnough,"

Nykea Aldridge, 32 years old, was pushing a baby in a stroller in the Parkway Gardens neighborhood after leaving the Dulles School of Excellence at around 3:30 PM when two men opened fire at another man.

Aldridge was caught in the crossfire and hit in the head and arm. She was taken to Chicago's John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and was pronounced dead immediately.

Police informed that she was not the intended target. Police have started questioning two men in connection with her death.

Pastor Jolinda Wade, Dwyane Wade's mother, called the shooting “senseless” while speaking to reporters on Friday night at the hospital. Pastor Wade, who held her sobbing sister Diana, said, “We are now in a very, very sensitive grieving place” .

The baby was not hurt. A relative took custody of the child, according to WLS.

In a statement on Friday night, the Chicago Bulls said, "The entire Chicago Bulls organization is deeply saddened by the news of Dwyane Wade’s cousin, Nykea Aldridge. We send our deepest condolences to the entire Wade family during this difficult time."
