After the light showers passed through Chicago on Sunday morning, severe storms made their way through the area, in the evening. Iroquois, Ford and Kankakee counties were under a Tornado Warning until 10:15 PM, as the area residents were advised to move to a basement or interior room on the lowest floor of a building.
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for Cook, Grundy, LaSalle, and Will counties through 11 PM
Grundy, Kankakee, LaSalle, and Will counties in Illinois, and Jasper, LaPorte, Lake, and Newton counties in Indiana were under the Watch through 1 AM on Monday morning.
The National Weather Service had issued a Tornado Warning for Livingston and Grundy counties through 9:15 PM.
The greatest threat of storms remained mainly in south of I-80, and any thunderstorm developing in these conditions could bring a heavy downpour of rain. The NWS also informed that wind gusts, reaching 60 mph and even quarter-size hail were possible.
Scattered showers moved from west to east on Sunday morning, after producing heavy rainfall, with some areas having 1-1.5 inch of rain before the storms initially left the area by around 12 PM.
The storm risk was expected to diminish overnight on Sunday, though the workweek could begin with another chance of showers early in the day and a high of 86 degrees.
