Survey finds Chicago as second costly city to tie knot

According to a new survey, Chicago is the second most expensive city to get married. The cost of a wedding in the city is an average of $61,265.

The survey results are to be released by The Knot, a wedding website. One wedding in the windy city is two times the 2015 national average with $32,641. The amount is 4.5% up, compared to the one in 2014, which was $31,213. This is excluding the honeymoon.

The survey found that the reception band, engagement ring and the reception venue are high expenses in the wedding budget. People are spending more even on wedding planners, florists and photographers. Most couples in Chicago are spending more on dining experience.

Lincoln Park-based, Citygirl Weddings, wedding planner, Gallagher, said, "People are taking risks. They're eating tapas style or they're doing some global food — they're entertaining with food."

"If you want to showcase food, it's going be more money," Gallagher said.

"The mistake people will make is they go and fall in love with a venue and book it before they have a planner or educate themselves," she added.

The survey found that Manhattan is in the top of the list when it comes to spending on wedding, with an average of $82,229.
