Marine Biological Laboratory names Indian-American Nipam Patel as Director

Indian American Nipun Patel, who is known been to be leading scholar, in modern evolutionary and development biology at University of California and Berkeley, has been named as director of the Marine Biological Laboratory.

As per the reports given by authorities, the Marine Biological Laboratory which affiliated to the University of Chicago has named him as director and also will b joined as faculty in the university campus.

Mr.Patel currently holds the position of William V. Power Endowed chair in Biology, at the California State University and also Berkeley University, where he is working as professor and also as co-chair of the department of Molecular and Cell Biology and professor in the department of Integrative Biology.

His appointment as the position would be effective from September 4

Since the past 17 years, Patel has been teaching as a professor for the course on Embryology at the Marine Biological Laboratory.

He was primarily engaged with the institution from 2007 to 2011, when he was the co-director and from 1995 to 2003 he served as a professor in the Department of Organismal Biology and Anatomy.

According to the official reports given by Chicago State University,

“Patel studies the evolutionary changes that have brought about the diversity of life seen today. Over the course of his career, he has established a marine crustacean named, Parhyale hawaiensis as a genetic model for understanding how diverse body plans develop and evolve. Patel’s significant scientific contributions complement a core focus of the MBL: discoveries emerging from the study of novel marine organisms, including research in comparative evolution and genomics, regenerative biology, neuroscience and sensory biology.”

Mr.Patel, also had better experience, working as a professional investigator at the Institute of Howard Hughes and also served as professor at the National Institute of Genetics in Shizuoka, Japan.

He primarily began his career, as a staff associate in the Embryology Department, at the Carnegine Institute in Baltimore, Maryland.
