Story
The story begins with Kavya Pratap Singh (Alia Bhatt) preparing for her wedding to an NRI from America, Angad (Siddharth Shukla). Kavya is a livewire from Ambala, who wants to wear a designer lehenga on her wedding day. Her father (Ashutosh Rana) is not happy about the idea as it involves exorbitant price. But Kavya is daddy's little girl and he relents. So Kavya takes off to Delhi for her designer lehenga, where she hopes to have a gala time before her marrige that is almost one month away.
In Delhi, Kavya befriends Humpty Sharma (Varun Dhawan). Humpty and Kavya keep meeting a number of times get attached to each other. Soon Kavya and Humpty are in love. Humpty has competition from a superman type of guy named Angad. The man is perfect - doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke, a matured man and smart.
Herein begins the fun part. So will Humpty beat Angad to win his lady love Kavya.
Analysis :
Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania is a refreshing take on DDLJ. Alia and Varun infuse life to their characters, which makes the film watchable. The chemistry was palpable, but the desired spark was missing between the lead stars. The film's script is mediocre, but the dialogues are brilliant. The wicked one-liners stand out in the film.
The film's first half is smooth but the second half makes you queasy. While the concept of the film is good, but it lacks heart. The film is a tad boring in the second half. A lesson for the filmmakers here is that it's best not to tamper with classics.
Performance :
Varun Dhawan is perfect in the role of Humpty Sharma. His dialogue delivery is effortless and he seems to be the best cast possible for the character he portrays. He's endearing in the role, something which seems impossible with another actor. Despite the poor script, he scores as an actor.
Alia Bhatt in the role of Kavya is charming. The pretty actress is improving with each film. Her acting skill gets better every time. Maybe in another five years she will be Bollywood's queen bee. Right from her first film till now, her acting skill has become better and even with a mediocre script Alia Bhatt manages to shine.
Ashutosh Rana brings intensity to the film, with his vigor. Gaurav Pandey and Sahil Vaid perform brilliantly in their supporting roles as Shonty and Poplu. Check out their one liners. Siddharth Shukla in the role of Angad has little to do other than flaunting his perfect abs.
Final Word:
Watch it for its fun and comedy, and of course Alia and Varun
